cholmondeley castle - image via Plant Hunter Fairs ©Cholmondeley Castle Gardens is said by many to be among the most romantically beautiful gardens they have seen. The Gothic revival castle - a product of the early 19th century - stands on a high rise above a lake and is surrounded by sweeping lawns and a variety of mature trees, including cedars of Lebanon, oak and chestnut.  The surrounding gardens provide a lovely mix of colour and height, with intriguing walks around the lake. There is a temple water garden, rose garden, rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias and a variety of mixed borders. For children there is a play area and all the family will enjoy the breeds of farm animals, including llamas, alpacas, African pygmy goats, and varieties of sheep, pigs and the famous longhorn cattle. Why not bring a picnic and enjoy magnificent views across the deer park mere, with its many varieties of wild birds together with an excellent view of Cholmondeley Castle. There is also a pretty tearoom open for coffee, light lunches, homemade teas, ice creams and snacks.  Plants will be at the heart of the event and we have a brilliant line up of nurseries each with something new, different and unusual for every Plant lover. Half-price entry on the day for the gardens and plant fair of just £3.00 for adults and £1.50 for children.
