Festival Report 2009 Print

Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts - Secretary's Report 2009/10 Our 103rd Festival started on Saturday 16th May and ran right though to 23rd May.

Taking notice of  adjudicator recommendations made at Conference 2008, we had two new Musical Theatre classes which were evaluated by music adjudicator Steven Roberts.  Also new this year, in a bid to attract new performers and honour our reputation for innovation, we introduced Electric and Bass Guitar classes, and a set of electronic keyboard classes, in association with the Yamaha School of Music.

Our adjudicators were Stephen Owen, Geoffrey Annis and Chris Marlowe for Speech & Drama, and Steven Roberts, Marilynne Davies and Eileen Bentley on the music side.

On Sunday 17th May, we were welcomed to the Christchurch, one of our Festival bases, where we held our Special Service of Rededication.

Separating Theatre from Musical Theatre ensured  maximum appeal, attracting more entries in both classes.

Barnado's Believe Festival Print

DanSing, in class 115 excelled with their performance and they have received, in addition to first place in class, a nomination to Barnardo's Believe Festivals.

Barnardo's partnership with British & International Federation of Festivals hopes to promote the profile of BIFF and raise awareness where it counts. This year's pilot scheme is held over 4 national regions, including the North East, which includes the Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts
.
Adjudicators looking to nominate group performers of not less than 5 in the group and all under 18 to take part in a Concert on 10th June 2010 at Leeds Town Hall.  More than one nomination can be made, it depends on the mark attained in their class (84 +).

This includes all three disciplines.  WFPA keen to be involved and already has one nomination in DanSing.  Having received notice of this via a sticker on their marksheet, they can obtain an application form via the Festival Secretary, should they wish to and be willing to attend the June 2010 Concert.

Congratulations to all nominees!
